A good padlock is one of those things you don’t think about until you really need one (I can never seem to find one at home when I need one). If you’re looking for quality locks that are made right here in the USA, check out this list of options. I wasn’t able to find many companies that make them here but I’ll add to this list if I find any more.
Commando Lock
Commando Lock Company was founded in 2006 by third-generation craftsman Patrick Smith. The company is based in Troy, Michigan and revolutionized padlock manufacturing by adapting progressive stamping processes from the automotive industry, enabling production with aerospace tolerances. They offer a range of military-grade padlocks. Please be aware that while they are USA-made, they do source some components from overseas.
PACLOCK (Pacific Lock Company)
PACLOCK has been operating since 1996 and is a family-owned business that evolved from importing and assembling products to full domestic manufacturing at their Valencia, California facility. They offer locks for a variety of different uses and have created a system whereby the same key can be used to open multiple different locks within their product range.
Wilson Bohannan Lock Company
Wilson Bohannan Lock Company was founded way back in 1860 by Wilson Bohannan in Brooklyn, before relocating to Marion, Ohio in 1927. The company has remained family-owned for over seven generations and they engineer and manufacture all of their products in their 42,000-square-foot Buckeye Street facility. All of their padlocks feature rustproof solid brass construction for durability in any environment.
The only thing with these padlocks is that if you buy direct from the company the minimum order is 12, but I’ve seem them for sale individually through other retailers.
