Deodorant might not be the most exciting purchase, but it’s something most of us use every single day). If you’re looking to stay fresh while supporting American-made products, you’re in luck. I spent time researching companies that make deodorants right here in the USA and put together this list of all the options I could find.
All Good
All Good was established in 2006 by Caroline Duell and is a California-based company that creates organic body care products focused on health and environmental sustainability. Their aluminum-free deodorants use botanical ingredients for effective odor protection without harsh chemicals. I couldn’t find any details about the specific manufacturing location but they are listed as being “Made in USA”.
Green Tidings
Green Tidings is a small, woman-owned natural skincare company born from founder Jennifer Benford’s personal loss—her sister’s early death from cancer inspired her to create safer products. Their popular natural deodorants are available in Lavender and Unscented, and contain no aluminum, parabens, or artificial fragrances. They are a good option for men and women seeking natural alternatives, staying true to the company’s vegan, cruelty-free, and fair trade commitments. It’s made in Southern California in a solar powered facility. They state on their website that they “strive to only buy components that are made in the USA”.
Honestly pHresh
Honestly pHresh was founded in 2015 by Hilary Pierce, and the company creates all of their personal care in the USA from what I can tell. Their pH-balanced deodorant sticks use prebiotics and minerals instead of baking soda, and they claim that they offer 24-hour odor protection while maintaining skin health. Their deodorant is available in several different varieties like Barely Sweet, Active Sea Mineral, and Bold Wild Oak.
PĀPR
PĀPR was founded by Daniel Roescheisen in Los Angeles and makes eco-friendly deodorants manufactured in solar-powered manufacturing facilities located in California. The packaging is made from 99.98% biodegradable paper and it’s available in unique scents like “Bright Shiny Morning” and “Coastal Forests” (they use cold-pressed essential oils for the fragrances). The company also reinforces their environmental commitment by planting a tree for each new subscription they sell.
PiperWai
PiperWai was started in 2014 by Jess Edelstein and Sarah Ribner, and the company pioneered aluminum-free deodorants by using activated charcoal to neutralize odor and absorb moisture. Their deodorant was originally handcrafted in Philadelphia, but production was moved to a family-owned facility in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania as demand grew (I found this info on 3rd party sites, not on their own site, so not 100% sure if they still manufacture there). It is available as both a hand-applied cream and traditional stick, and their vegan, cruelty-free formulations contain no harmful chemicals.
Rustic Maka
Rustic MAKA is a family-owned natural personal care company that was founded in 2014 by Polish-American sisters Kasia Rothe and Monica Stakvel in Michigan. They create products that are inspired by their Polish upbringing, and their aluminum-free natural deodorants come in many different varieties like “Calming Fields” (lavender and spearmint), “Luna Bliss” (featuring magnesium and charcoal), and “Sweet Lemonade”. Each deodorant is cruelty-free and is made with organic ingredients.
American Provenance
American Provenance has been running since 2015 and was founded by former science teacher Kyle LaFond, who was inspired by concern over ingredients in products his students used and wanted to create safer alternatives. What began in a renovated machine shed on his family farm now operates from a 7,000-square-foot facility in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. Their aluminum-free, cruelty-free deodorants come in unique scents like ‘Fastballs & Fisticuffs’ (basil and cedarwood) and ‘Shotguns & Shenanigans’ (bergamot and orange). Available in over 4,000 retail locations including Whole Foods and Hy-Vee.
Native
Native was founded in 2015 and quickly became a leading natural personal care brand with deodorants featuring recognizable ingredients without aluminum or harsh chemicals. Within just two years the company was acquired for $100 million by Procter & Gamble. I couldn’t find pecifically where they make their deodorant but on their FAQ page it states “All of our manufacturing facilities are in the United States.“
Sam’s Natural
Sam’s Natural is a New Hampshire-based company that handcrafts natural personal care products in small batches at their Atkinson facility. They were originally focused on men’s grooming needs, but have since expanded to a comprehensive product line. Their aluminum-free, cruelty-free deodorants come in numerous distinctive scents and they are committed to using natural ingredients that offer effective odor protection without the harsh stuff.
Misc. Good Co.
Misc. Goods Co. began with a successful Kickstarter for redesigned playing cards and has since evolved into a company that creates American-made products that blend practicality with timeless design. Their natural deodorants are aluminum- and paraben-free, offering all-day odor protection in eco-friendly packaging. I couldn’t find details on the exact manufacturing location but the company emphasizes ethical manufacturing and collaborates with craftsmen across the United States to produce their products.
Bubble & Bee
Bubble & Bee Organic is a Utah-based company that was founded in 2007 by Stephanie Greenwood and Steve Thomas. They were inspired by Stephanie’s desire to eliminate harmful chemicals from her skincare routine and develop products free from synthetic ingredients at their own USDA-certified organic processing facility in Utah’s Rocky Mountains. You’ll see that they offer what they call the “world’s largest selection of USDA certified organic deodorants”. I like how they call it one of their lines “Pit Putty”.
Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve
Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve was founded in 2001 by nurse and science educator Ida Friedman Kasdan, and began as a solution for her family’s skincare needs using natural ingredients. They now operate from their Solon, Ohio facility, and craft all products in-house. Their natural deodorant line includes the coconut oil and baking soda Extra Strength Deodorant, the gentler Sensitive Skin version with magnesium hydroxide instead of baking soda, and a traditional Regular Strength Stick Deodorant. All of their products are USDA Certified Organic, cruelty-free, and come in eco-friendly packaging.
Masculine Man
Masculine Man creates premium, natural grooming products for men, including aluminum-free deodorants that are made in the USA. Their deodorants offer 24-hour protection without staining and come in distinctive scents like ‘Freedom’ (minty with citrus), ‘Invigorate’ (rugged woods and citrus), ‘Bootlegger Bourbon’ (warm woody bourbon notes), and ‘Rocket Man’ (spiced oak and earthy woods). They also offer travel-friendly sizes for men on the go.
